Last week, on April 10, 2019, a black hole in space was photographed for the first time, and it caught the attention of the whole world. The black holes in space are out of reach, but the” black holes” of learning are all around us and within our reach. In this week’s mid-term examination session, let’s explore how to escape the “Learning Black Hole”.
What Are Black Holes of Learning?
Black Hole 1: Wasting Time. For example: “I’ve dawdled and procrastinated homework until l after midnight.”
Black Hole 2: An endless sea of questions: “I’ve worked hard but don’t seem to make any progress.”
Black Hole 3: Endless review:”I’ve been industrious and conscientious in my learning, but I’m struggling with knowledge to be learnt”.
All of nature works together, and even black holes that can swallow light, emit the “Hawking radiation”,(a kind of thermal radiation that is derived from black holes based on the quantum effects theory). This theory illustrates how to reduce the mass of a black hole and cause it to evaporate, proving to us that a black hole is not invincible. Our “black holes” in studying have some resolutions too.
Solution 1: Compare your ability to understand, master and absorb in different subjects, giving priority to the subjects you are best at.
Different people have different strengths and understanding of different subjects, so their mastery varies from one subject to another. We can start with the subjects that we are good at, and transfer the learning method of this subject to other subjects, so as to improve our overall learning efficiency, and achieve the maximum learning profit in the limited time we have to study.
Solution 2: Deciphering the difficulty of different types of problems, we should start with simple questions. We can explain it thus: it is like climbing the stairs; we can gradually increase the difficulty of our exercises in order to become more fit.
There is a well-known saying : “The loftiest building are built from the ground up”. Thus we can first learn to start from the simplest topic. This lays a good foundation. Secondly, in order to improve confidence, we can gradually transition to the more difficult aspects of the topic or subject, so as to obtain good study results.
Solution 3: Focus on knowledge which can help us improve our examination scores.
A student with a score of 80%, often thinks that a score of 90%, in his or her test, is progress. But what they don’t know is how to improve by that 10%. On the other hand, in knowing what caused a loss of 10%, he or she can focus on that problematic area. Thus learning becomes more efficient, and good results can be obtained.
